Which Power Chair Is Right For Me?

To be totally sure of answering this correctly it is important to have an assessment by a trained assessor, ideally in your home as it will probably be used there.

Your height/weight, general mobility, pressure care, seating requirements, home environment, condition and what exactly you want from your chair are very important factors.

However, the information below will help you initially understand the main types of chair available and what they can do for you.

Indoor/Portable

This style of chair is typically compact, will have a small turning circle and is designed primarily to be used either indoors or in shopping centres/places with smooth ground. They are not very suitable for general outdoor use as they will have low ground clearance.

Indoor/ Outdoor - Mid Drive

As the name suggests these chairs are suitable for both indoor and reasonable out door use. They will be slightly larger than the Indoor/portable category BUT because they are mid wheel drive they turn on a central point therefore having a smaller turning circle. batteries Average size doors can generally be negotiated without a problem

Indoor/Outdoor - Rear Drive

The style of drive on these chairs means that they do not have such a small turning circle as those with Mid-Drive. However they can often have options such as a kerb climber fitted and some people prefer this drive style. You may find it difficult to get around your home if you have standard size doors.

Outdoor

With either mid drive or rear wheel drive being available these chairs are bigger again, will often have larger drive wheels to accommodate uneven terrain and a large catalogue of options.
